What I really worry about is that I think the bloggers and everyone, everyone with a laptop thinks they’re journalists,” Thomas said. “And, they certainly don’t have our standards. They don’t have our ethics, and so forth. There’s a deterioration,” she continued. “Reporters laid down on the job in the run up to this [the Iraq] war.
Helen Thomas,* is a relic of a time gone by, a freaking long time ago. It was a time when PR firms placed ads as news and politics belonged to those that wrote on the "beltway", as long as they played ball with those in power. In retrospect it was time in which people like Helen could claim whatever they wished as diligence was yet to grow a backbone and beyond the reach of us common but sentient folks. I can't speak for other bloggers but I have no interest in journalism. However that said, I do indeed have standards and I'll lay down my last breath they rise above those of Helen's like Mount Everest does the Kangshung Valley. It seems that this so called journalist can't take the shinning light of honesty that blogging brings to the table.
Not all bloggers are honest and many indeed are for sale. You can note them upon entering their web page and seeing who what and where is tagged for advertising. I hear that this can be a big business and as Helen Thomas's career has shown big business is out to buy your opinion... isn't the Clinton dynasty but a business? Is not the Bush or the Kennedy? Frankly, it would be silly to think bloggers would not be tempted by the things that have bought journalists, as silly as thinking those who read this or the musings of the myriad of vastly more talented scribes than I... can't form their own opinions.
Using an 8 inch Newtonian telescope has not made me an astronomer, but viewing Mersinger Objects has helped me understand the stars. Using a microscope has not made me a biologist, but I've seen cellular dynamics in action. Blogging doesn't make me a journalist but it does allow me to post my opinions, outrage and humanity in a way that should cause Helen pain. If she were more evolved she'd understand her shame...

Helen Thomas, who works for Sun Myung Moon is a relic of a time gone by, a freaking long time ago.
Where on earth did you read or hear that Thomas worked for Sun Myung Moon? She quit UPI when the Moon bought it.
Find that here and many other places.
Thomas has more ethics in her little finger than most have total but I doubt she knows a lot about blogs. Moon now uses UPI to produce propaganda for his world wide political machine, the Universal Peace Federation.
Thank you for correcting my mistake.
It does little to change my opinion regarding Ms Thomas. That she could blame the state of mainstream journalism on bloggers rather than her peers shows you how she presents both facts and truth.
